Education

This highly interactive and engaging lecture/demonstration can be tailored to fit the appropriate audience, from elementary through high school assemblies all the way to PhD programs for students in ethnomusicology. This show has been presented in a variety of ways- always culminating with the audience laughing- clapping dancing and participating in hands on drumming. “Carnaval” acts as a unifying theme-throughout this brilliantly crafted demonstration that covers both afro-Cuban and afro-Brazilian music, history and folklore. Participants are joyfully immersed in learning about the authentic music and specific unique instruments that come out of these two fascinating and complex cultures. Sol e Mar educators have been at the forefront of afro Cuban and afro Brazilian music education for 15 years. Members include a PHD in Ethnomusicology; faculty member for the two most prestigious annual summer workshops for Cuban and Brazilian music, and a classically trained pianist, emmy winning composer and producer.
